Our Purpose
& Values

Our Vision

At FirstBank UK

Driving responsible growth and providing excellent service

Our Commitment

We are committed to forging new and enhancing current client relationships with those looking to expand or invest into the Sub-Saharan African (SSA) region.

Our approach is to balance current performance with long-term growth and robust governance.

We leverage our Group’s history of 130 years, experience

and market knowledge to successfully navigate the risks in Africa.

We are able to adapt to global economic conditions, regulatory change, and the unique challenges inherent in the markets.

We have a strong balance sheet with sufficient capital and liquidity.

Customer Duty

We are dedicated to treating all our customers fairly, in line with the Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) initiative. We align with the key outcomes outlined by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) as part of TCF:

Consumers can be confident that they are dealing with firms where the fair treatment of customers is central to the corporate culture. Products and services marketed and sold in the retail market are designed to meet the needs of identified consumer groups and are targeted accordingly.

Consumers are provided with clear information and are kept appropriately informed before, during, and after the point of sale.

Consumers do not face unreasonable post-sale barriers imposed by firms to change product, switch provider, submit a claim, or make a complaint.

Consumers are provided with products that perform as firms have led them to expect, and the associated service is of an acceptable standard and as they have been led to expect.

Where consumers receive advice, the advice is suitable and takes account of their circumstances.

The Consumer Duty Principle

Effective from 31st July 2023, the Consumer Duty introduces a new Principle that sets a higher standard of consumer protection across financial services, requiring firms to act to deliver good outcomes for retail customers.

Principle 12: A firm must act to deliver good outcomes for retail customers.

The Consumer Duty also introduces Cross-Cutting Rules, which articulate the standards of conduct expected by the FCA under Principle 12 to ensure good outcomes are delivered.

Firms must:

Act in good faith toward retail customers. Avoid foreseeable harm to retail customers. Enable and support retail customers to pursue their financial objectives.

In addition to the TCF outcomes, the FCA has identified four Consumer Duty outcomes that the Bank must act to deliver. These outcomes relate to:

  • Products and services
  • Price and value
  • Consumer understanding
  • Consumer support

The Bank’s obligations under TCF and the Consumer Duty are continually monitored to ensure that the Bank’s systems and controls reflect regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
